Mehari Mehreteab

Mehari Mehreteab plays Eritrean modern and guayla, and is well versed in bossa nova, rock, blues and some jazz.

Mehari Mehreteab played in Bengol Band at the one and only Nyala Hotel in Asmara. They had their standing gig during Saturday overnights and Sunday evenings. Mehari played guitar, and on bass for guayla tunes. His bandmates included Gashuau, Kaleb Temesghan, and Yemane Alem, the composer of Hewan.

Mehari’s biggest musical influences are the Eritrean greats Zerai Deres and Tewelde Reda, as well as the Ethiopian Roha Band. George Benson, Boney M., ABBA and Elton John also inform his approach to music, reflecting his wide range of interests and abilities.
